Creating Logos
Every Business Should Be Creating Logos That Capture The Target Markets Attention
Your custom logo is what develops your ‘Brand’. It becomes the face of your online business. It captures who you are, what you do and makes you unforgettable.
Most people remember faces not names. Consider creating logos as the ‘face’ of your business.
Your custom business logo is the basis from which the future design, look and feel of your website develops. It must be something that your target market relates to and it must be unique to you.
Once customers have a positive experience with your business, the logo represents your trustworthiness, reliability, and professionalism. They identify with the business through the logo.
There are many companies dedicated to custom logo design. Hiring a graphic designer to create a logo can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Yet, there are quite a few sites dedicated to customized logo design that enable you to design your own logo, virtually free of charge.
Creating Logos: Designing a Custom Logo for Your Business
Consider the following items when designing your logo, whether using a professional designer or creating one yourself:
-
How often do you intend to use the logo?
If your logo is going to be exposed to a large audience it is best to consider thoroughly researching your target market. They may have very passionate likes and dislikes which you may need to consider. If your creating logos only to be displayed on a trial website, avoid spending big money until you are certain your business is viable.
-
What colors are important to your target market?
It’s important to find out which colors are best for your particular target market. For instance, you wouldn’t want to be promoting bike parts with a pink poker dot background on your website. Try it out, it will undoubtedly have a negative impact on bikes sales.
Color psychology
I have read a range of studies about color psychology. However generally speaking there seems to be general agreement. Men generally prefer more earthy and stronger colors such as greens, reds and blues. Women tend to prefer softer shades and warm colors such as pinks, purple, greens and blues. Both men and women tend to dislike the color orange, with women disliking it more than men.
There are other colors not mentioned here, but you will find that softer colors create a sense of relaxation – which may cause people to sit on your site for a longer time. Bolder colors will arouse them more and would be better on for instance, a sales based site.
-
How much detail will you include?
Choosing a complex logo or opting for simplicity in a logo, is determined by your purpose. Virgin, Nike and the like use simpler business logos. Complex logos tend to be used by government and large professional service corporations. Listen to your market, look at the market players in your industry. If you find that the top five use a simple design then it would be smart to follow suit. Also, look at some of the worst players – if you can find them and see what they are going, it will give you further insight into what will work best for you.
-
Does your logo capture the attention of your target market?
Much like your color selection, your logo needs to ’fit’ the market. Does the motor bike market want simple or complex, pink or blue? Is the graphic of your logo appealing? Is it a logo that looks strong and robust? Or is it light and ethereal? I have my own idea’s about a design that would suit the motor bike market, but what I think (or you) ultimately doesn’t matter. Getting your market to rate your proposed design would be a valuable exercise.
-
Where will you be displaying your logo?
Putting you logo online can give you greater range of choices. There is no need for complex embossing or printing. Printing and reproduction costs need to be considered if you intend to take a complex logo offline. It can be very costly which will impact on your bottom line. So think about it in terms of budget percentages, what percentage of you advertising bill can you commit to offline promotional advertising.
