Web Content Development
Writing (aka. web content development) is so important to your website There is always a huge demand for brilliant sales and content writers and you’ll never be unemployed or out of pocket if develop unique content for your own website or do web content development for someone else.
Writing is one of the most important skills you can master on the internet. There are many visually unappealing sites out there that still sell loads of products and services because they use language that informs and enriches their customers. If there is only one thing you do online, develop your web content development skills. The best way is to start and then continually practice.
Three Types of Website Content Writers
- Sales copy - A descriptive and informative piece that highlights ‘WIT-FM’ or whats-in-this-for-me, that is your reader. The intention is to sell your customers a particular product or service, for example selling an ebook.
- Basic website content development and general information – Providing facts/figures and highly relevant information to your target market that informs them and enhances your credibility.
- Product and service descriptions - Reviewing and promoting a product for affiliate marketing or describing the products you sell. A combination of sales copy with great emphasis on relevant topic information. This type of writing has an element of sales in it yet, it highlights the features/benefits and your recommendations in greater detail.

Web Content Development Tip #2 – Highlight important words
If website readers scan over your copy, its important that the main point of each sentence stands out. Use bold font or highlight your paragraph’s main point with a bright color such as yellow or orange.
-
Web Content Development Tip #3 – Write descriptive links
Make sure your link description is relevant to your subject matter. To put ‘click here’ on a link will frustrate your readers and they will click away. Write something that represents your best keywords for example. Instead of ‘click here’ after you’ve written the product description, write something that includes your keywords – these are the terms that people search for. Like my site uses links - ‘keyword selection’
and include it in your text.
-
Web Content Development Tip #4 – Stick to one subject per page
From personal experience, searching and going to a page that has articles and listing for loads of related subjects is great. However, when it overshadows the main information I just click away. If you are writing about widgets then stick to widgets and keep related topics at the bottom of the page or out of the way. Offer one major point for each sentence you write, this will keep your reader’s attention.
-
Web Content Development Tip #5 – Planning your content for each page
Before you start writing list all your major points first. Write your page theme at the top of your page and list all the points below, then expand on them to describe exactly what you mean. Keep the language simple, clear and descriptive.
-
Web Content Development Tip #6 – Use bullet points throughout the page
Again, website readers move quickly over your content, so use bullet points where you have a sub-heading or a key point to make. If you place bullet points at the top of the page it helps your reader see exactly what you detail you will provide. They just may choose to stick around.
-
Web Content Development Tip #7 – Create powerful headings
When people first click onto your page they read the heading then scan the text for major points. If your heading doesn’t match what they are looking for they won’t bother scanning your text. All your headings must speak to your target market, grab their attention and create some mystery or interest that compels them to read further.
-
Web Content Development Tip #8 – Put the conclusion first
Ok, great heading! You have my interest, so now you need to keep it. My eyes are moving down to your first sentence. So you’ve got my attention and your text better match up to my expectations or I’m gone. You then describe exactly what I will receive by reading through the rest of your copy. It’s passed my heading test, first sentence test and I’ll now read the rest of your copy.
-
Web Content Development Tip #9 – WIT-FM? (what’s in this for me)
Write to your target market, tell them what they are going to get and how your information will benefit them. People get online to find information that will make their unique circumstance better, easier or clearer. They always have there WITFM radar switch on, give it to them and they’ll keep reading.
Regardless of your style of writing, its important that each page follows the above rules. Personally, I always write with the end result in mind. My number one aim is to provide highly relevant and informative content to my readers before I even think about SEO and keyword optimization. Dan Lok’s
books are renown for there descriptive information about how to write for profits. Dan Lok’s books provides some of the most affordable resources considering the value he offers his customers.

Web Content Development Tip #1 – Use simple, clear and descriptive language
Reading from a website is different than reading from hardcopy. The eyes tire more rapidly due to the backlight a computer screen radiates and the amount of information your eyes have to scan through. Imagine, that your reader has been online for two hours looking for information on your product or service. They are tired of ‘fluffy’ writing. They want facts and figures and they want it in a simple clear and descriptive language.
Avoid using complicated words, slang, jargon, crude words and keep it sharp and to the point. Avoid ‘filler’ words that don’t provide any strong points.
