Online Business Opportunities Test



There are different home business opportunities around and I know how difficult it can be to choose the perfect one.  I  was in this position for sometime, but I know that you will eventually find the business that suits you.  There are several ways to determine which business would be best.  This Home Opportunity Test can help you gain greater clarity around the mountain of opportunities, and provide you with more direction.

The three key parts to career, employment, business opportunity tests are:

  1. Self assessment – understand yourself and perform a self assessment to get clarity on how you operate
  2. Know your options – if you haven’t done so already, read through the home opportunities section to find different business opportunities available
  3. Make the best choice - guided by your current values, interests, skills and personal qualities match up with the best business opportunity that will allow you to thrive

Step 1

Self-Assessment

To decide your best path, you need to be willing to take a hard look at your strengths and weakness.  This is a most important part of any business decision.  Yet it is often skipped over since it’s not necessarily the most comfortable thing to do.  It is vital to look at and answer the following questions since this point could be the start of a whole new adventure.

When answering the following questions, consider all of your past habits, likes, dislikes, interests and skills.

  • What do you do during the daylight hours?
  • Look at what you like to do?
  • Reflect upon an average day in your life say three weeks ago and today.   Is there a great divide between the two days?
  • Have you ever experienced anything like your dream day in the past to know if you would really enjoy it?

You know you are onto something good if you feel very excited and the creative mind starts going into overdrive.  Simple as that!  Look at all the opportunities available online – in broad categories – and list in order of preference those that arouse your interest.

  • Do you like working by yourself or with other people?
  • Does the idea of working from a computer or laptop excite you?
  • Do you work well with others or better by yourself?
  • What are your key strengths within a work environment?
  • What are you weaknesses in the work environment?  Be honest.
  • What would/do you enjoy most about operating an online business?  What does it offer you?
  • Can you manage yourself well?
  • What does your dream job involve you doing each day?
  • What do you love to do in your spare time?
  • Do you have a hobby that you can set up online?
  • If you were explaining to others what type of business you have, what would you tell them?

Step 2

Know Your Options

Creating a strong and realistic vision of who you are are and what you would like to be doing in the future is the cornerstone to your success in business.  There is nothing stronger then a personal mission statement that articulates what you really want out of life.  What type of business can you make from that vision?

Now, list the home opportunities in order from least favorite to the most favorite choice.

Choose the top two or three, depending on how much research you want to do, spending time looking at the pros and cons of each business.

This stage involves brainstorming and assessing those top three opportunities.   Investigate them thoroughly.  As you research your chosen field(s), you will discover more about what is involved in the day-to-day operations of your type of business.  If you still enjoy that then you are getting closer to the best business for you.

I highly recommend making contact with people who are doing what you want to be doing.  These people have ’been there, done that’.  Their experience can shed light on many unforeseen areas and they may offer advice about the steps to take to enhance your success.  Such contact can have a big impact on your business plan.

Some questions I have asked in the past include:

  • If you started again, how would you do it?
  • Describe a typical day in your business?
  • What advice would you give to a beginner?
  • What resources/materials would you recommend I study?
  • Is there anyone else you think I should talk to?
  • How much money do you think I realistically need to start and maintain my business?
  • What would you largely attribute to your success?

Step 3

Make the Best Choice

After realistically looking at yourself and to the future, you’ll get a better picture of what you would enjoy doing on a day-to-day basis.  Matching that vision with the best vehicle for you can be daunting as there are opportunities that may appear bigger and better flowing past all the time.  Unfortunately, this can be the bane of the entrepreneurial mind.  So learn to live with it.  You will be ‘wowed’ by many opportunities throughout your business life.  Yet there will be one business out of the two or three that will stand out for you in a big way.

If you have taken time to do the research and you are still undecided about your final choice, ultimately you will need to make a choice and be willing to put the others on hold until such time as you have suceeded in the number one business.

The attraction of an online home business is you can conduct several small businesses at once.  Many internet entrepreneurs manage in this way. You could conduct surveys too to earn extra money, while you build your website for the business of your dreams. You can mix and match anyway you like.
