Time Management
Internet Business Lifestyle
Running a business should be for the sole purpose of improving or providing a better lifestyle.
In some ways operating an internet business is the same as running any other business. Many people who start up an internet business often skip over all the ‘backend’ requirements of establishing a solid business.
Adopting or creating a good time management system early in the process of starting your business ultimately plays a big part in reaching your objectives faster and allowing more time to do the other things you want to be doing with your time.
A couple of top advantages to running a business online:
- You can earn more money per hour working in your own business than you ever could working in someone elses.
- You can create a business around your lifestyle, not a lifestyle around your business.

Time Management Tip #1 - Managing Your Tasks
Knowing what to do and when to do it, is what business owners all over the world spend billions each year to master. And rightly so. Like you and me, they also look to other people for answers to their biggest questions in the hope that they will find a quick solution to what has proved time and time again to be a time consuming exercise.
Here’s how to begin-
- Write down monthly/weekly and daily tasks. What do you want your business to look like and by when?
- Brainstorm all the tasks you want completed for the week.
- Prioritize your list – what is going to make the biggest difference to your business today?
- Don’t take on doing everything yourself – delegate the less important tasks to someone else — learn to outsource.
Remember, you are the person that makes or breaks this business, so consider yourself the project manager rather then the task performer. I know many internet business owners that do it all themselves.
I once did everything myself, but quickly realized that with my level of expertise I could only get my business to a certain point. There were another 10 levels to rise to and I could only muster one. Do the tasks that pay you $500 per hour, not $5 dollars.
Time Management Tip #2 – Work With Deadlines
When you write down your task list, add a deadline to it. Get into the habit of working to timelines. You may overshoot your target the first few times, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it. Deadlines aren’t put in place so that you can quickly move onto the next task. They are used so you can reward yourself with spare time to focus on non-business related activities.
You’ll be amazed how much better your business operates when you are well rested and energized.
Time Management Tip #3 – Reward Yourself
Get into the habit of rewarding yourself at the completion of each major task. As your business grows, increase the size of the reward. Matching the task to reward is a great way to stay motivated over time, get into the habit of doing it now and you won’t burn out.
Rewards don’t have to cost you anything. They can include going for a walk, spending time with a loved one or relaxing in a park. When money starts coming in, try attaching financial targets with personal rewards. But also reward yourself for major task completion regardless of monetory gain.
Remember:
- Completed Major Tasks = Money in the bank, either immediately or within due course.
- Focus on becoming a Project Manager = Have others do operating tasks.
